DEPAKOTE BIRTH DEFECTS

Depakote is linked to severe birth defects and Abbott Laboratories should be held accountable.

Birth defects such as spina bifida, cleft lip, cleft palate, intrauterine growth retardation, hypospadius, polydactyly, heart defects, limb growth defects, skeletal defects, neural tube defects, and other serious birth defects are always tragic and always costly to families and to society.

The tragedy of a birth defect is compounded if the birth defect could have been prevented or was the result of taking a prescription pharmaceutical drug or medicine.   Sadly, even with all of our scientific advances, pharmaceutical drugs still are a significant cause of congenital birth defects.

Myelomeningocele spina bifida and meningocele spina bifida are severe birth defects linked to a pregnant mother taking Depakote.   Spina bifida is a neural tube birth defect.  The neural tube often closes around 28 days after conception.  Depakote usage during this critical period, especially early in the first trimester, is extremely dangerous to a developing fetus, especially with respect to neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

Cleft palate and cleft lip are other serious, disfiguring birth defects linked to a pregnant mother's use of Depakote.   Other children and babies born to mothers with genital defects such as hyospadius, limb and skeletal growth defects and problems, polydactyly, heart defects, such as ventricular septal defect, often or sometimes have mothers who took Depakote while they were pregnant.

How we can stop the needless tragedy of birth defects caused by drugs such as Depakote?   Certain birth defects never would have occurred had mothers not taken Depakote during the critical period of their pregnancy, often in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Reducing or hopefully eliminating drug induced birth defects depends on people joining together and fighting for safety drugs and prescription pharmaceuticals taken during pregnancy.   Our law firms and lawyers have joined forces with many families tragically altered and affected by birth defects such as spina bifida, cleft lip and palate, skeletal or limb growth problems, heart defects, and many others.

Whether a women took Depakote (Divalproex Sodium), Depakote ER (Divalproex Sodium), Depacon, (Divalproex Sodium), Depakote Spinkles (Divalproex Sodium) while she was pregnant, or a generic version of the pharmaceutical drug, which is sometimes referred to as a VPA, "Sodium Valproate" or "Valproic Acid", or some combination of these, our lawyers will consider her birth defect or birth injury case and the case of her child.

The lawsuits will not be pursued as class actions.   Each injured person's birth defect case will be reviewed and analyzed separately by our lawyers.   Although we cannot guarantee we will accept your case, we are now considering and accepting Depakote birth defect cases, including claims involving the following injuries and birth defects:  spina bifida occulta, spina bifida cystica (myelomeingocele), genital malformations, meningocele and lipomeningocele, neural tube defects, cleft lip, cleft palate, limb growth birth defects, polydactyly, intrauterine growth restriction, anencephaly, hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, hypospadius, vsd (ventricular septal defect), asd (atrial septal defect), pulmonary stenosis, other heart defects, facial dysmorphism, hypoplastic right heart, dysplastic ribs, hand malformations, skeletal defects, and fetal death.

Please be aware that statutes of limitations and perhaps other deadlines exist for filing lawsuits.
