Risperdal, a widely-prescribed antipsychotic drug, is used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in men and women. However, recent studies have found that Risperdal, when prescribed to boys and men, causes a serious condition called Gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia is enlarged breasts in men and young boys. Johnson & Johnson, the manufacturer of the drug, failed to warn consumers about these troubling side effects. If you or a loved one has been treated with Risperdal, the following are symptoms of Gynecomastia to watch for, and should be reported as soon as possible.

  • Swollen breast tissue
  • Tenderness in the breast
  • Pain in the breast
  • Nipple discharge from one or both breasts

As a result of these devastating side effects, men and boys also experience psychological trauma. To eliminate the excess tissue that is present in Gynecomastia, surgery such as liposuction or mastectomy may be required.
