At Davis & Crump, we represent individuals in litigation in multiple jurisdictions who were injured as a result of wearing Skechers “Shape Ups”. These injuries include broken bones, stress fractures, sprains, falls, and injuries to ligaments, tendons or joints.
Skechers maintains that wearing its rocker-bottom toning shoes would help improve the wearers’ health. Although they deny any wrongdoing, the Federal Trade Commission ruled otherwise. The FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection found that the shoe company made unsupported claims, including that Shape Ups would cause weight loss and improved cardiovascular health.
What studies have shown is that this design creates instability for the person that wears this shoe. This in turn, causes significant pressure on the joints and bones that would not occur with a normal shoe. It also causes people to fall resulting in serious injuries.
Injuries resulting from Skechers Shape-Ups include:
- Broken bones
- Stress fractures
- Sprains
- Falls
- Injuries to ligaments, tendons or joints
