What Medical Bills will the Insurance Company Pay For?

Although details vary in each state, medical services paid for by workers compensation insurance generally include:

  • Doctor and hospital services (including surgeries)
  • Nursing services
  • Medication
  • Physical therapy
  • Wheelchair, crutches and other equipment
  • Mileage expense reimbursement for trips to the doctor

Certain rehabilitation services may also be provided to help in your recovery and your return to work. Your employer or its insurance provider will make all medical payments directly to your doctor, hospital or other medical provider.

What Else Should I Know about My Workers’ Comp Medical Benefits?

In most cases, you have the right to select one doctor or medical provider of your choice to provide treatment. This medical provider may make a referral for you to be seen by another specialist to continue treatment. However, any further medical providers or referrals of medical specialists must be approved by your employer or their insurance company.
