Conclusion of Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Therapeutic Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) has blossomed into a multi-billion dollar industry. Millions of American men currently (and in future) will likely find themselves prescribed products like Androderm, AndroGel and other Low T drugs marketed to them as masculinity in a pill.

It is true that short term trials show that Low T drugs can help men with hypogonadism normalize their testosterone levels and enjoy other benefits, such as increased energy, increased libido, increased lean tissue mass and decreased fat mass. However, the evidence of these benefits is far more ambiguous than TRT drug makers would like people to know.

For instance, as Dr. Sergei Romashkan, noted: “The problem is that we don’t have any evidence that prescribing testosterone to older men with relatively low testosterone levels does any good.”

Meanwhile, some evidence suggests that TRT can increase risks for all-cause mortality, including death by heart disease and stroke, and lead to a surprisingly diverse gallery of side effects and symptoms.

Despite the huge popularity of TRT among doctors and patients, the therapy is not conclusively safe for all men; and it may, indeed, predispose some men to develop heart disease, stroke and other very serious complications.
