Davis & Crump Attorneys Martin Crump and Jess Waltman contribute to MAJ CLE event.
The Mississippi Association for Justice (MAJ) hosted its Mid-Year Convention on December 5th and 6th in Jackson, Mississippi. The theme for the Mid-year Convention was “Crossing Lines: What Every Attorney Should Know About Other Areas of Law”, and the continuing legal education (CLE) sessions allowed attendees to familiarize themselves with new areas of the law and to learn new ideas for expanding and streamlining their practices.

On the first day of the convention, Martin Crump, principal of Davis & Crump, served on a panel titled “Small Town Solutions for a Nationwide Market: Effective Marketing for Firms of all Sizes” with Jad Khalaf and Patrick Malouf to discuss how firms can market themselves to clients on a local, regional, and national basis as well as how attorneys can effectively market themselves to other attorneys as potential partners for association on cases.
On the second day of the convention, MAJ offered three hours of CLE on the recently passed “Mississippi Guardianship and Conservatorship Act” that goes into effect statewide on January 1, 2020. The legislation is commonly referred to as the GAP Act, and it has generated a great deal of interest among attorneys given the pervasive nature of guardianships and conservatorships. Jess Waltman, an attorney with Davis & Crump, helped plan and facilitate the Mid-Year Convention and provided the introductions for Whitney Griffin and Whitney Thrasher who gave CLE presentations to help the attendees prepare for the implementation of the GAP Act in 2020.
The CLE sessions were attended by MAJ members from across Mississippi, and the other sessions covered bankruptcy, identity theft, immigration, social media discovery, and workers’ compensation claims with a third-party component. MAJ is an organization of attorneys that works to make sure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others has access to justice in the courtroom, even when taking on the most powerful interests. Martin Crump currently serves as President-elect of MAJ, and Jess Waltman serves as the Treasurer of the MAJ New Lawyers Division.
